Yes, as Moscerina wrote, this is happily ironic! During my research on Italian-Americans, I've found that the Old West is rather revered in Italy. One subject in particular has drawn much interest: Giovanni Martino (John Martin), the last white man to see Custer alive. Much of my data comes from Italian researchers. Yes, very interesting indeed, as noted by Moscerina. I conduct quite a bit of research on Italian-Americans, and one subject has drawn much interest: Giovanni Martino (John Martin). He was the last white man to see Custer alive. His story is very popular in Italy, but less so here. I've published articles (OSIA, In Buona Salute, regional newspapers) on his life. Thanks for the post-- I think this is happily ironic, especially as Italy was much of the set for many Spaghetti Westerns that dealt with the American story!
