I have been living on this island for nearly two years, I have discovered all that has been said, however not that easy to convince those who come here for a brief visit.

It is all very true, very true indeed in the same time so very sad, the people are happy to castrate themselves as long as they put on a " belle figura"
A beautiful country with that is very much mistreated by its own people.
Common sense or reasoning does not exsist, it simply is " qui si fanno cosi"
Thats it, so if you want to do something the way it is done out of sicily, you better hold your guns.
As for hospitallity - never stops.

being barese ... i think that this article simply states the obvious ... sicilia is not italia ... and sicilians are not italians.

they have a different distinct culture, a different dialect - which for all pratical purposes is its own language, and quiet frankly sicilians speak for themselves - not for italians.

garibaldi should have left this part out.

Mille grazie per questo buono articolo! I am second generation American and 100% Sicilian and can definitely say that I could see a lot of truth to what the article says. I only have to look as far as my family and myself. The last sentence of the article is perfect. I really feel that my family tries to forge the best of both of the cultures.
