Director Foxman was/is quick to point an accusatory finger, usually in a very public way and seems to have a very sensitive and low threshold for what he perceives to be a pervasive anti-semitism in American society. In the Batavia case, a crass and cruel bit of stereotyping on an innocent community, the shoe was squarely on the other foot. Had the Italian community confronted Foxman with the case, we would have been able to take the measure of the man in terms of his integrity and commitment to a civil, pluralistic, free, and fair society.
