AMSTERDAM, April 28 (Reuters) - Italy's Vanessa Ferrari grabbed the all-round title at the European gymnastics championships following a stunning display on the asymmetric bars on Saturday.
Ferrari added the continental crown to her 2006 world gold with a combined total of 61.075, edging out Romania's Sandra Izbasa by 1.175 points. Alina Kozich, who won the European title at the same venue three years ago, was third.
The 16-year-old Italian did not match her performance from the qualifiers earlier in the week and was especially error-prone on the balance beam.
However, Ferrari eclipsed her rivals with a soaring routine on the bars which earned her 15.700, 1.475 more then Izbasa.
Izbasa's compatriot Steliana Nistor was also in the running for a medal until a fall in the final rotation put paid to her medal hopes.
Ukrainian Kozich capitalised on Nistor's misfortune to clinch the bronze medal with a total of 59.300.
